Welp, I think your question has merit, but if
someone asked me that, I'd answer thusly:

 - if by "building a service" you mean "supplying an RSS",
   then it takes a user all of five minutes to get one
   integrated with their CMS, using any of the 'blogify'
   variants (graciously started by my son, btw).

 - as for advertising on a service with no viewers,
   we need a bit more hard data on this, I agree. I can't
   vouch for any of the other viewers (NewsIsFree, Headline
   Viewer, Peerkat, Radio Userland), but AmphetaDesk has
   been grabbed 14,000 times, been mentioned twice
   on TechTV, been DL of the Day numerous places, and
   so on. The fact that the press seems to like
   this technology and the various aggregators
   (NewsIsFree, Moreover, etc.) suggests that a userbase
   does exist.
