I also found this from browsing bugzilla:

  Link toolbar doesn't support HTTP links headers

This page has the syntax for putting links into http headers:

  http://www.bath.ac.uk/%7Epy8ieh/internet/eviltests/link5.html

However I suspect that getting people to add http headers for links to
RSS might be somewhat harder than getting people to use the link
element...
