I offer two RSS 0.92 feeds for my site (one entirely <description/>
and the other entirely <title/> and <link/>) so I would much prefer
allowing multiple feeds in a given format. However, I'd think having
multiple formats at all for one page is atypical (except for Manila
sites, with their RSS and scriptingNews2 feeds). As already noted,
"This isn't designed to be a directory function."
So, if the number of files to link to is typically one or small, why
bother with a separate list at all? Why not just <link
rel="xmlSyndication"/> directly to a channel file, supplying multiple
links (like for stylesheets) if there are multiple feeds?
The main objection I see is that means each syndication format needs
its own "text/xml+" content-type for the link's "type" attribute,
though one might use "text/xml" and make the user-agent fetch it to
see what kind it is.
