'nother RSS feed for you

I managed to convince Chris to provide an RSS feed for the Sells Spout
www.sellsbrothers.com/spout/
www.sellsbrothers.com/spout/spout.rss

In the process though, he asked the inevitable questions
a) a what ?
b) what does that do for me ?

a) was easy, i cooked up a 0.9 sample, and sent it to him.
b) I trawled around and couldn't find anything that i could point him
to that covered why he would want to provide an RSS feed.

Is there a decent document for this, and i just missed it ?, if not we
really need one. 
The average person who know's nothing about RSS is not going to be
interested in all the ins & outs, they just want to know (a) what they
get out of it & (b) what to do.
