Yeah, I had thought of this too, but figured that if you needed something
this complex you should look into something like xmlNews or other similar
formats. These are for entire story syndication, but I think they are a
little too complex for anything other than hard-core wire feeds (like AP)
and a bit excessive for basic headline syndication.

As for Dublin Core, I agree -- I think it's a great idea, and incidentally a
better fit than adding an <author> element, but unfortunately I don't
believe many folks actually use it. I just tried to find a great use of it I
saw a few months ago with no luck. It was an Australian art site that in
concept was similar to an RSS aggregator -- different online Australian
museums tagged their data in Dublin Core, and it could gather all that
information automatically and then you could search on it through the web.
It even handled DC data in different formats -- some in HTML META tags, some
separately, sometimes with combined tags, sometimes with segregated tags --
It was pretty cool.

There is of course a third major use. The commercial news site where a
story or feature has an author and probably a sub-editor (and perhaps a
whole hierarchy of researchers, editors and bureaucrats ;-( ).

Much as it would be nice to have an <author> element, it's no good
changing the standard to include it if nobody uses it. For the moment,
we have to work with the feeds as they are. There ought to be an option
to go back to the original page and check the headers, but hardly anyone
puts this data in the headers or actually uses the Dublin Core which is
probably the relevant standard.

A quick scan of the standards suggest that this would have to be
proposed and accepted in 0.93 or it could be encoded as an RDF sub-
element of <item> in 1.0 But even if this happened, you'd have to
persuade the providers of your favourite feeds to add the data.
