Re: [syndication] Auto-aggregation of RSS from Blogroll management system

I think he is asking for the exact opposite: He wants to start with a blog roll (of which not all sites will neccesarily have RSS feeds) and have the aggregator, OPML, and RSS generated from that.

Do any web based aggregators periodically sync (instead of a one-time-import, like Bloglines and others) with an OPML file? If so, part 1 is already done-- just point it at the opml generated by your blog roll host.

Localfeeds: Bloggercon (which no longer exists....) worked somewhat like this. It was a web aggregator that synchronized hourly with the official Bloggercon OPML Blogroll. I thought about developing it into something more generally useful, but thought it would be too off-message.

Auto-aggregating RSS from Blogrolls
A request to anyone who runs a Blogroll management system or code. eg Blogrolling.com, bloglines.com, Typepad.

When a new site is added to the blogroll, use RSS Auto-discovery to capture the corresponding RSS feed. From this, generate three things.

1. An aggregated html view of the feeds

We do this already. A couple of lines of Javascript added to your blog template, and you have a blogroll that is always in sync with your Bloglines subscriptions.

2. An OPML list of the feeds

We do this already as well. In addition, you can mark specific subscriptions and/or folders as private, which means they will not show up in your blogroll. For more information on our blogroll and export functionality, please see http://www.bloglines.com/help/share

Also, some people are using the MT-Outliner plugin for Moveable Type, found at http://www.cxliv.org/jayseae/movable_type/outliner/index.html to process the OPML exported from Bloglines.

3. A single composite RSS feed of all the items.

We don't yet do this, although it's on the to-do list.

Thanks,

Mark
