What URLs are you using? 

I have a URL maker you can use to create them:
http://feeds.archive.org/misc/yahoogroups

I created one for this group and AD loaded it fine.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/syndication/messages?rss=1&viscount=15

A point to mention, the group /must/ have it's archive of messages 
set to be publicly readable.  Archives marked private will not allow 
the RSS generator (at yahoo) to create a feed.  Since most feeds are 
intended to be for public consumption this makes sense.  Now, it is 
possible, using a seriously difficult cookie dance, to pull down 
archives from member restricted groups.  You have to be a member, of 
course.  But no reader programs support this and it's difficult 
enough that none should bother trying.
