Re: not enough people are using rss aggregators; not enough is known.

I saw that coming but never fear. With xml getting more "air" time these days, getting valuable rss information published should be getting easier in more wide spread location in the next couple of years.

Next thing you know rss will be talked about all over town.

Because I have some experience with marketing software that many don't understand and have never heard of. in case anyone here cares;

make lists of areas that rss is useful sounds redundant but make lists then separate these lists into keywords that may be used to locate businesses that would fall in these categories.

once you have a strong batch of min. 20 keywords. start doing huge searches. since the service is free it should be very easy to find willing partnerships to spread the word within groups and organizations.

2nd thing is write articles to be published in areas out side of blogging! rss is loved by bloggers blogging has become a loved and charished thing by most of the media so don't be afraid to break out the old dance card hole puncher.

collablorate with other blog dev. that incorporate rss in the service, that is bloggerpro, mt, userland, modzilla off the top i am certain there are others. write articles about anything and everything. pick some random blogs that use rss and discuss it with them write an article anyone can relate too. keep the language simple and get people excited about the prospect. too often dev. want to show their knowledge in articles trust me it doesn't appeal to earthlings.

contact blog devers who dont currently offer rss options and offer it.

sometimes just leaving it out there doesn't produce the results you would normally expect esp. for IT. Sometimes you gotta make the effort!

anyway, i have been trying to find an rss dev. who would be willing to work on a database project with us for our on line database tool eCriteria.net.

I am hoping that soon enough this will be an interesting collaboration for rss dev.

Not enough people are using RSS aggregators. So far it's mostly been for
people with a substantial investment in information, engineers, librarians,
lawyers. A lot more people, even people with liberal arts degrees, would use
the software, if they knew how valuable it is.

+1

The FOAF vocabulary looks like its going to be the first that will be in
widespread use outside of the RSS core and modules (inc. DC etc), perhaps
partly because it's acting as a catch-all, and already has many of the
features you list. The applications still have a long way to go, but it was
nice to see FOAF in use with NewsMonster.

What would be really useful would be a list of languages that although not
'attached' to RSS would be very appropriate for use with RSS to avoid
duplication of work (e.g. I've got one in progress for project issue
management).
// hmm... actually I'd be happy to compile it if people send me the info...

This can already be expressed in at least one way (there's been discussion
elsewhere about a jobs vocabulary, and there's a few ways of doing
location - e.g. foaf:Geo), so I suppose what's need is the app to
demonstrate it - shouldn't be too difficult, a filter for extracting
job-related data from feeds, a store to accumulate it, a filter to select on
location (or whatever) and a front end to access it. (I'll put this down
for a use case for JemBlog!).

Cheers,
Danny.
