re: rss syndication for databases..

Hey all,

Thanks for the feedback to my question. I am excited about the idea; to implement directly. I am gather information to bring it into focus, not being a programming you've really helped. I will let everyone know when we get it running... have a great weekend btw.

Subject: Links not working?

Hi,
I'm new to the whole RSS thing, but I am excited about it and I have
added an RSS feed to my website for daily brain teasers. My feed has
passed the validator test, and I think I am doing it right, but none
of the links are working from my offline RSS reader (NetNewsWire Lite
on Mac OS X) while other links for other feeds are working. Could
someone please check my feed (its short) and let me know if I am doing
something wrong with my links?

Thanks a ton,
Jake

Hi,

i am new, i cruised the archives to see if this topic has already
been addressed. its kind of a new thing, so far i haven't seen it
done. i am interested in applying the neccessary programming in
order to provide syndication for structured data.

example, xml enabled database (.NET) more info at
http://www.ecriteria.net/press_webservice.asp, in place, what other
steps need to be taken in order to establish current rss feeder
capabilities to this so that any reader could be utilized to
complete the syndication process?

thanks for any help in advance..its appreciated!

Do you mean you want to ask the reader, during download, what capabilities it
supports? Reader programs do not currently make much use of this part of HTTP
sessions.

For most situations, currently, when people want to provide feeds that "have
more" content they do it using different URLs. The regular feed is at one URL
while the richer one uses another.

If you want more sophisticated syndication then you should consider using ICE
instead.

Two things, one is you might want to use XHTML compatible line breaks.

instead of
. Even then using that many of the to somehow mimic the 'scroll
down' effect is probably not such a good idea. Given people are reading feeds
for brevity and speed it might not be a good idea to annoy them by making feed
items that gobble up the screen. It's up to you, of course.

There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the elements you're using.
You might want to make use of an A HREF in the description instead of leaving it
in the alone. Something like this:

If I understand you correctly, then all you need to do is to set up a .asp
script or whatever to query the DB and return the results in RSS format [1].
This in effect is what is done by tools like Movable Type, which queries a
MySQL DB. You may like to try searching on database -> RDF mapping, which is
really the 'superclass' of this task.

Cheers,
Danny.
