Are you allowing the users to enter a username anywhere?  If so, then how about
a checkbox somewhere that allowed them to indicate the use of it tacked onto the
regular referring user agent string?  If not the username then how about a web
site URL?(encoded of course)

That's what's being done in some other reader products.
