Permalinks and URN?

Hi all,

What about using a URN for a permalink?  This is what they're 
supposed to do, aren't they?  

The http://www.purl.org service looks interesting.  As does the 
Handle System http://www.handle.net/introduction.html

Might this be a way for the various feeds to handle permanent links 
to items or even to the feed itself?  Get a PURL setup for your feed 
and then you can move it around as your server/code requires.

Using an agreed upon URN namespace, from what I can tell, looks like 
something to consider.
