I assume you mean stable implementations of XML parsers which support XML
Schema?

Yeah.. I don't think this is an issue with RSS but a larger issue with XML.

It is kind of impossible with the current technology.

We are using contentType as a URI in Reptile (which BTW is now recommended in a
note by Tim Berners Lee)
