Syndic8.com is now accepting registrations
Hi Everyone,
Well, as always its taken a bit longer than planned, but I now
have the skeleton of a syndication evangelism site running
at www.syndic8.com.
None of the sections have any permanent content yet. Instead, each
one contains a page or so describing what I expect to have in the
section. Please go ahead and read these, and let the list know
what you think.
The only functioning code is in the user registration section.
You might as well go ahead and register now, and make sure
that you can log in. My plan is that most of the services will
be available only to registered users. Please go ahead and
register, and report any bugs or problems to me.
Next on my list is posting of my existing set of feeds, and then
rendering of the feed list in OCS. This will happen within a
week or so.
I have planned (in my head) a very cool system that will allow
registered users to extend the feed table by defining additional
columns (which will be stored separately) and a custom rendering
into XML for these columns. In this way, the core data will be
clean and not slanted toward any particular client, but it will
be customizable so as to be able to serve those clients. For
example, I want to store a couple of extra flags and values that
will be mainly useful to Headline Viewer. I will define these as
additional columns that will be stored separately. There is a
picture of this system on the XML page.
Once we have all of this, then I will work on the core of the
site -- a centralized list of desired feeds, and a simple and
elegant workflow mechanism that will let us coordinate our
efforts to get sites to syndicate.
I want to make this a community site in the best possible sense
of the word. I also want to make sure that those who put the most
in to the site get the most out. In particular, I am not going to
permit very much "read-only" access. If you want the data, you
are going to have to participate.
For now we can use syndication to discuss this; if things get
really busy then I will set up a separate list.
Enjoy,
Jeff;
