joRiSS Player

joRiSS - Broadband Receiver

Friday Joris released the latest test versions of the <a href="http://joriss.jamby.net/2001/07/27";>joRiSS Player</a>. A BroadBand multimedia receiver. It's available for Windows and Macintosh (classic under OS X) and is based on Director technology. It has a simple guide and can view any "RSS" channel (which you can add to your guide). Included are several channels, including the Movie Trailer channel. Its simple and elegant; you subscribe to one or more channels, set a time when you want your BAMF (Big Ass Media Files) downloaded, like when you're sleeping, and joRiSS does the rest.

Geek info: Currently we are pulling in channel information from two Xml Storage Systems, www.ourfavoritesongs.com and datashed.net. Next steps are to fully integrate the player with the 'cloud' with xml-rpc calls. This is how we will build the guide in the future, as well as handle subscriptions and change requests. So work still to be done, but this is lookin' good!
