I'm not sure that's the consensus. A two-forked approach works for many
other things -- your software comes in high-end Manila and low-end Radio
UserLand they're similar, but different. One is better suited for some
things than the other, despite the fact that they're very similar
underneath. I see RSS in the same way -- there's the low-end version 0.91
and the more advanced 1.0. But we can argue about this forever...
What I think really *is* dangerous is the split in the community: What
Danbri and others are trying to say is let's heal the community and not
worry about putting the formats back together -- this seems unlikely. Let's
work together and make great software that takes advantage of RSS, of all
sorts.
