whew, that was a long url.  Indeed, the old usenet structure is 
specifically NOT what I'm talking about here.  Integrating with that 
train wreck is very likely not worth the time/effort/grief.  The cast 
of characters involved in news is legendary.

That said, I'm thinking of how a company would develop weblogs for 
not just the employees but departments or other entities.  The idea 
of each and every desktop running a web server isn't as good an idea 
as it seems.  Just simple stuff like backing it all up is a pain.  We 
won't go into security and the like, but these are real show stoppers 
in most business environments.

So I'm wondering what's a viable alternative?  Using a straight-up 
SQL server is less than trivial.  This doesn't seem an area best 
suited for this task.  Yes, it can be done but is it ideal?  This 
leads into considering an NNTP server.  Not for the purpose of 
sharing feeds elsewhere but for simple message storage like that 
found in weblogs.

Hmmm, just a thought.
