A firewall friendly service might allow for responding to
notifications from a variety of sources, and then forwarding them by
subscription.
A client (subscriber) connects to a notification service that has
responders of various kinds. Every time a notification comes in, it's
passed down the subscription channel.
This could easily be set up in a transparent way on the client side.
Instead of registering to the source site directly, you register
locally, the local client then registers with the notification
service, and the notification service registers with the source site.
