Actually, to be clear, I believe there will >always< be more than one spec
for syndication. There already are several specs in common use (RSS in all
its variations, scriptingNews, ICE, moreover, iSyndicate).

Each has its benefits and drawbacks for particular purposes, and I imagine
most developers and aggregators will support most or all of them. I'll stick
my foot in my mouth right now and say I don't think there will ever be "one
true way" to syndicate content.

(Heck, we're probably going to use some subset of ICE simply for internal
syndication of data between servers that need workflow synchronization, even
though I get the shivers every time I try to read through the entire ICE
spec.)

For what it's worth, now that I better understand the goals of RSS 1.0, I
think it's a fine spec. (Though of course I will almost certainly ignore
most of its "RDF-ness" in our current products.... the RDF über-toy will
come later.... :-)
