i totally agree with Laird on this

i think what we need is a way 
of defining licenses in xml so they can be included
with content as its syndicated out

this would enable content producers to define
in a machine readable way the terms of usage

and content aggregators could programatically
make decisions about whether or not it is worth
including a piece of content in their page

the open directory sorta does this
publishing their content in rdf with the caveat
that you must include their html on any page
with their content on it
